Who we are

What Holladay Kitchen Co. is, in plain terms

Holladay Kitchen Co. exists for one reason: most homeowners start a kitchen remodel without a clear way to think about it. They see finished photos, collect countertop samples and get estimates, but nobody has asked the first question, which is how the room should work.

So we do two things. We publish planning guides on costs, permits, layouts, materials and older homes, written for kitchens in Holladay and the surrounding Salt Lake Valley. And when you tell us what isn't working in your own kitchen, we pass that request to an independent local kitchen remodeling professional who can talk with you about it directly.

That's the whole model. Holladay Kitchen Co. is not a licensed contractor, doesn't employ tradespeople and doesn't perform construction. The professional you're connected with is a separate business, and any design, estimate or contract is between you and them.

Why layout first

Why a Holladay kitchen remodel should start with the floor plan

Finishes are easy to change later. Walls, plumbing and the path between the sink and the range are not.

Holladay's median home was built in 1969, and 47.8% of homes here date from the 1950s and 1960s. Kitchens from that era were usually closed rooms planned for one cook. New cabinet doors don't fix a refrigerator that blocks the walkway or a sink with no counter beside it.

Published planning standards give that layout conversation real numbers. The National Kitchen & Bath Association, for example, recommends work aisles of at least 42 inches for one cook and 48 inches for two or more. Numbers like these are why our guides lead with layout before they get to quartz or tile.

How this site handles images, sources and licensing

Images are illustrative. The kitchen photos on this site were generated to show layout ideas. They are not photos of completed projects, and we never present them that way.

Numbers come with sources. Costs, clearances, permit rules and housing data are drawn from third parties such as the U.S. Census Bureau, NKBA, Houzz, Zonda's Cost vs. Value report and Utah state agencies. We name the source and edition next to the figure and link to it, so you can check it yourself. These are industry figures, not our own pricing.

Verify any contractor yourself. Utah's Division of Consumer Protection says contractors in Utah are required to obtain a license and liability insurance, and recommends checking a license before you hire. You can search any contractor by name or license number in the DOPL Licensee Lookup.
